This is Renault’s F1 car for the 2017 Formula 1 season, the R.S.17. Though the manufacturer had a pretty bad 2016, the new car holds promise to help them climb up the ranks again, while even they admit that cracking the top 3 would be too much to ask for.
Jerome Stroll, Renault Sport Racing’s boss said: “The R.S.17 is the first car which Enstone and Viry have been able to plan and develop from the outset and we’re satisfied by the fruits of this interaction. It’s a beautiful car. We want to take a definit, tangible step forward in performance and results. Fifth position in the Constructors’ Championship is our goal.”
That said, there is a sense that Renault might even manage a podium this season at some point, and the new car looks the part. F1’s new technical regulations have resulted in fatter, wider tyres and in the bright yellow livery, the R.S.17 looks pretty mean.
But that’s half the story, bringing us to Renault’s driver line up for 2017. On one hand we have Jolyon Palmer in his second season with the team and F1, who certainly did much better than Magnussen last year. Alongside him will be new signing, Nico Hulkenberg whose credentials were more than proven when he helped Force India finish fourth in the Constructors’ Championship last season. In fact, Palmer should profit from Nico’s desire to really move up the grid. We’re looking forward to Renault’s return to winning ways.
