Just last night, Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new Ignis in India, and this cute little crossover-hatchback is something to keep an eye out for.
It comes with two engine options, both proven workhorses for Maruti, the first is the 1.2-litr K12 motor good for 81bhp and 113Nm. The other is the 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel which develops 73bhp and 190Nm of torque, both engines come mated to a five speed manual gearbox, but AMT is also available as an option. While the Europeans get an AWD variant, India gets the Ignis with front wheel drive only.
We have to say, the Ignis’ looks have captured our interest, though we are yet to see the production spec in person, and are looking forward to see plenty of these running around the streets. It looks…funky. Especially in that tinsel Blue, with the two tone option of a black roof. It’s got LED projector headlamps and DRLs, its taller than the average hatchback (but in a good look, not like the eyesore that is the WagonR), it’s got small slits on the rear panel, along the sides. It’s probably one of the best looking cars Maruti Suzuki has launched here, since the original Swift. Their marketing folks say that the car is aimed squarely at the Millenials, as their pick of the bunch for a first car, and again, we agree, it does seem like it will do just that.
With features like ABS and dual airbags as standard, prices for the Ignis start at INR 4.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the top end variants with the AMT are priced at INR 6.3 lakh for the petrol and INR 7.46 lakh for the diesel (both ex-showroom, Delhi).
With its proportions, we do hope someone does a custom paint job to make it look like a cute little panda on the road. What do you think?
