New Bentley Continental Supersports: The most powerful Bentley ever

A little earlier this week, Bentley put out an announcement that they will be showing off a new Bentley on the 6th, and that it was going to be the most powerful one till date. While we weren’t that happy with the Bentayga, partly because of the looks, mostly because it’s an SUV, there was no denying that it was a fast one. So Bentley knows how to make it luxurious and blisteringly quick, and this new one did not disappoint on their claims.

The Bentley Continental Supersports packs 700bhp and 1017Nm of torque in its 6.0-litre twin turbo W12 engine. Oh yeah. And the numbers there mean that this 2.3-tonne car can go from 0-100kph in just over 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 336kph, which according to Bentley, makes it the fastest four-seater in the world.

But how did they get that extra muscle from that engine? Well, it gets a little technical so we’ll just quote most of this bit from others who seem to have understood it of sorts. To start with, it has new, bigger turbochargers and a revised cooling system. The ‘cranktrain’ has also been ‘beefed up’ to cope with the monstrous power and torque outputs. The new SS keeps the 4WD system and has added the torque vectoring tech from the Continental GT3-R. The suspension is lower and stiffer, you get 21 inch forged alloy wheels (saves weight, 20 kilos of it) and an optional titanium exhaust.

There’s a fair bit of cosmetics too, like new bumpers, lots of carbon fibre and a rear spoiler for the coupe variant (we don’t care much for convertibles). There’s choice of getting more carbon fibre on there if you desire. The cost? Well, prices start at £212,500. Reckon you saved enough in 2016?
