The world finally got to see the all new Skoda Kodiaq in the metal at the 2016 Paris Auto Show and it is a thing worth waiting for.
The Kodiaq is Skoda’s first ever big SUV and it is aimed to give serious competition to the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe or a Toyota Fortuner or even a Land Rover. It has both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations in the same design, along with what they claim to be top-in-class luggage space. There will be five engines available for the Kodiaq, the options of four wheel drive and choice of manual or automatic transmissions providing much variety to pick from. The two main turbo-charged engine variants would be a 1.4 litre and a 2.0 litre with an output of 125 bhp and 190 bhp respectively.
It may be Skoda’s biggest SUV yet, but the engines are also tuned for efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. The interiors also seem appealing but the last row of seats do look a bit lacking in finish. The technology on the dash seems to be in a neat layout with a clever multimedia interface and three-zone air conditioning and dynamic chassis control for good ride quality. Overall, it is still aimed at being user-friendly and comfortable for family use.
The prices in India are estimated to start from INR 28 Lacs onwards.
