This was probably the hardest listicle to do, picking just 10 cars from the past 10 years. While the SUV craze picked up in this period, a lot of cool cars were introduced as well. So, I set myself a couple of rules — one car per manufacturer, only cars that have already been delivered to customers and NEW cars no updates. I took the model years from netcarshow.

These are my top 10 cars of 2010, arranged in reverse chronological order:

10) Aston Martin DBS Superleggera (2019)
The British carmaker has been on an impressive run this decade with a fresh batch of cars in the last 3-4 years. While Aston Martin has some epic hypercars in the pipeline, the DBS Superleggera is the best-looking super-GT in my opinion. While the 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 churns out 715bhp and 900Nm making the DBS a really quick ride, the soundtrack of the 5.9-litre naturally-aspirated V12 would have made the whole package bulletproof.

9) Porsche 911 GT3 Touring (2018)The 991.2 generation of the Porsche 911 sportscar is the one I learnt to appreciate and my favourite one of the 2010s was the GT3 Touring. That’s right, I like this one more than the 918 Sypder hypercar. Why? Three simple reasons: 1) 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine that revs upto 9000rpm; 2) only comes with a 6-speed GT sports manual gearbox; 3) deletes the racey rear wing from the regular GT3. *mic drop*

8) Bugatti Chiron (2017)This is probably the most obvious car on this list. Buidling a successor to the Veyron would be tall task and Bugatti managed to hit the mark with the Chiron. It looks amazing, has ridiculous amounts of performance from its bonkers 8.0-litre quad-turbo W12 engine, has a comfy interior and is capable of being a daily driver. The Chiron is also the first production car to have a variant that can do more than 300mph.

7) Ford GT (2017)A mid-engined Ford is a lovely and rare occurrence that yields some incredible results. The American carmaker’s most iconic motorsport achievement was to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 taking all podium spots and beating the top-dogs of the time, Ferrari. As the 50th anniversary year of this landmark achievement drew nearer, Ford decided to go back and win again. Of course, the race is a lot different now but Ford resurrected the GT program to participate in the LM GTE Pro category. For that, they needed a road-legal version of the same and that’s how we got the all-new Ford GT.

Extensive use of carbon fibre with lightweight materials, advanced aerodynamic design and a mid-mounted twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 that makes 646bhp and 746Nm are all part of what makes the Ford GT an impressive supercar. While Ford did act quite silly with the order allocations, NDAs and restrictions on resale of the Ford GT, the car itself was above all the drama. A big part of my love for the Ford GT is down to Tim aka Shmee150 for sharing his journey with his GT. I even got myself a 1:18 die cast model that I’ll be posting about soon(hopefully).
Note: Ford managed to secure the class win for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 with the new GT, and took third as well. The GT program was shut down in 2019 with a few more class wins for the Ford GT and Mark II track-only version for customers.

6) Koenigsegg Regera (2015)Christian von Koenigsegg has had a busy decade, churning out a number of immensely capable hypercars. That includes the one that holds the current record for being the fastest-ever road-legal production car with a recorded average top-speed of 444.66kph – the Agera RS. However, my favourite Swedish hypercar of the decade is the Regera. Barely a handful have been delivered to customers starting in 2018, but thankfully its enough to qualify for my list. The Regera’s hybrid powertrain has a total mechanical power output of 1479bhp and 2000bhp while Koenigsegg says the performance figures peak at 1797bhp. It uses a combination of a twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 with three electric motors – one on the crankshaft and two mounted on each of the rear wheels. The battery used for the motors is developed by Rimac Automobili. But the most astonishing aspect of the Regera’s powertrain is its direct drive transmission that does away with traditional transmissions that lead to high energy losses and add weight. It’s also a luxurious targa-top grand tourer. It even has an an EV mode.

5) Ferrari LaFerrari (2014)Unlike official publications, I won’t be picking the Holy Trinity. Instead, I picked the one that appeals to me the most of those three incredible cars – the LaFerrari. The Porsche 918 Spyder may be faster around a track and the McLaren P1 may scare the living daylights out of you, but there’s just something special about the LaF. I mean, Ferrari called it “The Ferrari”. It’s that epic. A 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 with a F1 inspired KERS system for the electric boost offering a combined peak performance of 949bhp and over 900Nm of torque. On top of that, it looks absolutely gorgeous and one of the few cars in the world where I don’t mind that there is a convertible version of it (the Aperta) which allows one to enjoy the V12 soundtrack even more.

4) Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series (2014)The SLS AMG brought back the gull-wing doors which is still a pretty nice design in the supercar world. For its time, the Mercedes-Benz super-GT featured some new-age technology for its construction and performance capabilities. A few years into its launch and with a racing version for GT3 championships, an extreme-performance road-legal version of the SLS was introduced with a very special badge –  Black Series. Picture it this way: AMG is the performance division for Mercedes-Benz. Black Series is the work of the even more performance-focussed division within AMG. The performance comes from weight saving and specialised parts for the ride, handling and cooling. It uses an uprated version of the same 6.3-litre naturally-aspirated V8 that now churns out  622bhp and 635Nm with a sports 7-speed DCT. It revs higher too, all the way to 8000rpm.  The SLS AMG Black Series is 70kgs lighter than the regular one thanks to a lot of carbon fibre and other bits of clever engineering. It’s got flared arches for extra width to house the wider tyres and lots of aerodynamic upgrades made from carbon fibre: front splitter, rear diffusor, side sills, bonnet, front winglets on the larger air intakes, fixed rear wing with the Gurney flaps. The SLS AMG Black Series may be getting old but its not slow with a 0-100kph time of 3.6 seconds, electronically limited top speed of 315kph and had a best time of 7:25.67 for a lap around the Nürburging Nordschleife.

For all its lightweight philosophy, Mercedes-Benz still fitted the SLS AMG Black Series with enough comforts, screens and features to make it usable as a super GT to travel back and forth from the track.

3) Tesla Model S (2013 & 2017)Of course the Tesla Model S is on this list! It changed the petrolhead’s perception on what EVs can do. It also happens to be my favourite kind of fast car — four doors and with plenty of luggage space. The first-gen model came out in 2013 and smoked most cars over a quarter-mile drag race. Then Tesla brought out the 2017 version which was definitely the better looking one and introduced the P100D performance version. It uses a 100kWh battery, two electric motors(one on each axle) for an output of 794bhp and 1373Nm, offers 555km of range(EPA test cycle) and can do 0-100kph in 2.6 seconds. Not bad for something that weighs 2.2 tonnes, has two luggage spaces and is actually friendly for the environment.

2) Lamborghini Aventador (2012)The Aventador is the flag-bearer of the Lamborghini V12, the successor to the Murciélago and the production-series offspring inspired by the Reventon. From its very first iteration, the Aventador is a very capable machine with striking looks earning itself a place in the life of many a rich person. It’s very well engineered too with a carbon-fibre monocoque, aluminium frames, four-wheel drive, clever F1-inspired suspension and a new ISR(independent shifting rods) transmission. Its rear mid-mounted heart is a newly developed 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 that makes 691bhp and 690Nm. The performance figures go up through the variants — 731bhp in the S, 738bhp in the SV and 758bhp in the SVJ. It is an icon of the decade and a poster car for petrolheads everywhere just like its predecessors – the Murciélago, Diablo and Countach.

1) Lexus LFA (2011)
The Lexus LFA is one of the coolest cars in recent history. It took the Japanese carmaker almost a decade to put together the final product and it was totally worth it. The LFA remains one of the best-sounding car of the 21st century thanks to its Yamaha-tuned exhaust for the 4.8-litre naturally-aspirated V10. Today’s hypercar and hyper-EV performance figures have muddled the numbers a bit, but the Lexus LFA is still epicly quick: 552bhp, 480Nm, 0-100kph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 325kph. It’s also a really good looking car made of all kinds of specialist materials and its rarity makes it that much more special. The Lexus LFA has a permanent spot in my personal list of top 10 favourite cars.
