Porsche is still in the midst of its 70 years celebration and in June it had unveiled a tribute model at Zuffenhausen for the occasion – the 911 Speedster Concept. This Porsche throwback open-top concept study received a lot of interest from the public and enthusiasts. In response, at the Paris Motor Show, Porsche announced that the 911 Speedster will be put into production with a limited run of 1948 units only.

The Porsche 911 Speedster concept study uses components from the 991.2 generation of 911s – the chassis from a GT3 and the body based on the Carrera 4 Cabriolet. Power comes from a familiar high-revving 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine that develops more than 500hp that is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. It’s lightweight too thanks to the fenders, front and rear bonnet made from lightweight carbon-fibre composite.

It’s a beautiful design with the double-bubble cover behind the seats and a lightweight tonneau cover instead of a typical convertible soft top. The one shown in Paris has received a Guards Red paint job, racing-inspired 21-inch cross-spoke wheels and black leather interior. The 911 Speedster will go into production in 2019 and will be offered with new Heritage Design Packages with an exclusive accessory line by Porsche Exclusiv.

What do you make of this new Porsche limited edition 911? Do you think it will be as well received as the 911R was? What are your expectations from the new 992 generation Porsche 911 that will be unveiled soon?
